Simeon is responsible for all aspects of these businesses including current performance as well as establishing and implementing strategic priorities that will enhance future success.

He is recognized for incorporating high-touch, thoughtful services that people value in virtually every aspect of their lives but have been missing in their insurance and healthcare experiences. His formula is also designed to serve the targeted, unique needs of providers, employers, and brokers, all of whom are key to bringing tomorrow’s healthcare solution to the marketplace today.

This brand of forward-thinking management contributed to the success of his most recent leadership role as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Bloom Health, Minneapolis, Minnesota (2012 – 2015), a leader in designing, building, and operating private exchanges. Simeon drove rapid growth that was catalyzed by a commitment to bringing consumers “knowledge, trust, and confidence.”

Previously, he was Senior Vice President, Commercial Markets (2009 – 2012) at Medica Health Plans, Minnetonka, Minnesota, where he and his team created My Plan by Medica, an exceptional provider-oriented product developed in partnership with health systems. Over the years, he has held senior level management positions at several high-profile healthcare companies including a succession of leadership roles at UnitedHealthcare.

A graduate of Dartmouth College, Schindelman is determined to make a measurable difference in people’s lives and bring about positive change. These are the hallmarks of his unique approach and vision for the success of BHPS.

Michelle Zettergren

President, Labor and Public Sector

A long-time industry leader, Michelle Zettergren is committed to personalized service and preserving the future of health care benefits for working people. At Brighton Health Care Solutions, Michelle leads all sales, account management, and business development activities for labor and public sector clients of BHPS’s MagnaCare and Create products. Prior to joining BHPS, Michelle served as Chief Revenue Officer at HealthPlanOne, where she led sales, new business development, product development, and market positioning. Before that, under her leadership as Chief Sales and Marketing officer at ConnectiCare, overall membership grew more than 150% and public sector labor sales and membership grew more than 200%. Michelle also served in various roles at Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield and Kaiser Permanente. Michelle earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Marketing from Central Connecticut State University, and holds a certificate in Mediation from University of Connecticut/Quinnipiac School of Law - Center of Dispute Resolution.

Adam Young

Chief Legal Officer

Adam joined our team in April 2015, and is responsible for the day to day activates of our Legal Department. Mr. Young is a member of the Pennsylvania and New Jersey Bars.

Joseph Brennan

Chief Compliance Officer

Joseph Joined MagnaCare back in July 2012 as Associate General Counsel and was promoted to Chief Compliance Officer in April, 2014. He is responsible for all compliance and regulatory day to day operations. Mr. Brennan is a member of the New York, New Jersey and District of Columbia Bars.

Steven Kokulak

Senior Vice President, Casualty Services

Steve joined us back in 2007 as Director of Workers’ Compensation and No-Fault and was promoted to Senior Vice President in April, 2013. His primary responsibilities are driving new business growth, overall retention of existing business, and regulatory oversight of this line of business.

Julie Bank

Senior Vice President, Human Resources

Julie joined us in June 2004. Since then, she has continually developed and implemented strategic approaches to recruiting, hiring and retaining top career-oriented, talented people. Her H.R. strategies stress talent, cultural fit, and organizational-effectiveness.

Vanessa Hargrave

Vice President of Finance

Vanessa has been with us since July of 2014 and she is in charge of all controllership functions, financial forecasting and budgeting, development and enforcement of internal controls, and providing financial analysis of operations to identify cost reduction, improved revenue and cash flow opportunities.

Joseph Berardo, Jr.


Joseph Berardo, Jr. serves on the Board of the Brighton Health Group and has been a Partner since Brighton’s acquisition of MagnaCare in January 2014. In January of 2016 he transitioned to Chairman of MagnaCare after serving as Chief Executive Officer for the past 8+ years. Mr. Berardo originally joined MagnaCare as Vice President of Sales and Marketing in January of 2003. He took over as President in June of 2005 and added the role of CEO in September of 2007. Mr. Berardo’s transition has allowed him to become more broadly involved across all of the Brighton Family of companies.

Mr. Berardo started his career in health services with U.S. Healthcare in 1990. He subsequently held leadership positions at Mount Sinai Health System, Empire Blue Cross/Blue Shield and Multiplan. A former Crain’s NY Business 40 under 40 and NJ Biz Power 50 in Health Care. Mr. Berardo has authored numerous articles related to health plan strategies for providers, employers and brokers. MagnaCare experienced dramatic growth under his leadership, positioning the organization as one of the largest regional Health Plan Services companies in the country.

Mr. Berardo currently serves as Chairmen of Board of Directors of the Make-A-Wish foundation of NJ and Vice Chairman of the Board of the Ocean Medical Center Foundation. Mr. Berardo holds a BA in Economics from Rutgers University.
